Wolf Canyon Elementary School
Kids grow up so quickly! That’s doubly true at Wolf Canyon Elementary School, the neighborhood K-6 located less than a mile away from Côte Vera. Wolf Canyon is known for its FAST program, emphasizing a forward-thinking curriculum in Fine Arts, Science, and Technology. The school year at Wolf Canyon extends year-round, beginning the third week of July and ending in early June, a schedule that promotes academic success while still leaving plenty of time for family vacations and beach days. And for a little extra peace of mind, parents can rest assured that Wolf Canyon fosters healthy habits: the campus participates in Live Well San Diego and has removed unhealthy snacks and drinks from the lunch menu. Little ones not yet school aged? While planning for their future, keep in mind that a second elementary school will also welcome Côta Vera students in phase 2 of the masterplan. It is still in the early planning stages.

For busy parents, Timberwolves in TK* through 6th grade can enroll in the Character Builders aftercare program at Wolf Canyon. Run by the City of Chula Vista and the South Bay Family YMCA, the program provides safe, supportive childcare—homework help, organized games, sports activities, and arts and crafts—from 6am until the start of the school day, and from the last bell until 6pm. Enrollment options are flexible, including before-and-after school care five days a week, a before-school-only or after-school-only option, and three-day-a-week enrollment. More information is available here. Program fees are discounted for YMCA members, but children and families do not have to be YMCA members to enroll. The YMCA also maintains the Childcare Resource Service, a vetted listing of childcare professionals and organizations in the area.
