Danny and Kelly Chung are the proud owners of The Village of Escaya’s newest boutique pet grooming salon, Pride N Joy Grooming. After deciding to migrate from L.A. to San Diego to be closer to parents, Kelly stumbled upon signs for new homes in Otay Ranch while looking for the mall. So, she toured through The Village of Escaya community, and it was love at first sight. That same day, she and Danny put down a deposit for their Prado home, and it’s been all tail wags from there.
From L.A. Fashion to S.D. Fur
Danny spent 20+ years mastering the L.A. fashion industry, but an even bigger career shift came with the big move. They wanted to find something they could both enjoy together, and what’s more enjoyable than getting to know your community’s cutest residents? So, Danny focused on getting his certification as a pet groomer while Kelly concentrated on getting the business plan together and setting their dream in motion.
Doing Business in The Village of Escaya.
Having a business idea is one thing, actually putting it on paper and going through the process is a whole other animal. Kelly used a few different software programs and loads of research to help her map out expenses and all the fine details. The biggest perk of opening a business in a HomeFed community like Escaya is that the shops are very purposeful. HomeFed has a vision for the retail in its communities, and that vision is to build connection, so there is a concerted effort to bring small businesses and mom and pop shops to the community.
Pride N Joy Grooming is now open at The Escaya Village Center, Côta Vera’s sister community. This will be a pet salon that you and your pet dog (or cat!) can look forward to visiting with pet services, grooming, retail, and most importantly—a Great Dane-sized love for all our furry friends.
